Introduction

Serving the citizens and residents of any country has formed the main function of governments over the years. Over time, these services have evolved because of the development of the necessities of life, urban growth, and the variables that appear in the social aspects of health, education, entertainment, and others.

They also evolved with factors of economic transformations, transportation and communications, whether on land, sea and air. The emergence of information and communication technologies has witnessed rapid developments in all previous fields until we reached the era of e-government and its synonyms, such as smart, interconnected, or digital governments etc.

Technological development gave governments tremendous capabilities to provide unprecedented services we did not dream of before. Governments have become obsessed with the sustainable development of their services they provide to their citizens, institutions, visitors, and foreign organizations they have various type of relations with.

About Digital Government

The Digital Government is an advanced stage of developed government services that allows governments to best respond to the needs of citizens and the business sectors based on cooperation and communication between government institutions. The Digital Government enables the provision of high-quality public services responding to its customers or beneficiaries’ needs. These services can be accessed through a unified communication service according to the live events of individuals or businesses. The Digital Government also improves efficiency in government operations by eliminating duplication and making better use of scarce public resources. The following attributes characterize the Digital Government:

  • Providing integrated and interconnected electronic services to citizens and residents through the unified and integrated effort of all government agencies.
  • Interoperability of business processes and applications among different government agencies.
  • Digital transformation through the use of information technology to digitalize government services.
  • Data and analytics are shared among government agencies to enable business processes, help decision support, and facilitate service delivery.
  • Focuses on serving citizens and prioritizing their needs, ease of access and use of e-services.
  • Transparency, openness, and accessible data approaches are crucial to building trust between government and citizens.
  • Collaborate effectively among government institutions and agencies to address complex Challenges and provide comprehensive solutions.
  • Provide user-friendly interfaces and platforms through websites, mobile applications, or other interfaces.
  • A flexible regulatory and legislative environment helps to develop policies and regulations that facilitate smooth government operations.
  • A secure and safe environment due to the ever-increasing dependence on information technology.
